This explains why roadworks limits speed to 50. I don't like slip roads that are too short or none at all that I have to speed up on the main road

The flipside to this issue is HGVs slowing right down to enter the roadworks. In either case, switching the hazard lights is a good idea because other drivers won't expect (or might forget) that vehicles can exit and leave there. A good clue for predicting these merge points is where there are breaks in the barriers that are wide enough for a lorry to fit through.
