Now that more information is available, it turns out the camera control button is a hybrid system. Much like the old home buttons ( iPhone 6s and below), a full click gives you physical, tactile feedback through a real button (tactile switch), while a half-click is digitally simulated by the Taptic Engine (like the iPhone 7 and above). I've never heard of any other phone manufacturers doing this before, pretty interesting.

Now Apple will say, "Revolutionary fingerprint reader on the side." I wonder where I've seen this before.

If they didn't already do it with this generation, I feel like they definitely will with the next. What do you guys think...?

I don't think it has a touch ID sensor on there. But I think this is Apple's trial run of their "buttonless" button design for the next iPhones

iPhone 17: your beloved TouchID is back 😂

That looks like the On-Power-Button Fingerprint Scanner.

according to MKBHD who has used it hands-on, it is a real clickable button that just also has a taptic engine that can provide a response to lighter presses, since both hard and soft pressed have their own functions

Lmao, it probably does but its unused

That's actually pretty genius. I feel like in the future all buttons on the iphone will be fake with taptic engine making them feel real. That could improve water resistance by a LOT!

I actually like that it’s touch. That means that there is no chance the phone is shaking from pressing a button. I mean you can take pictures with the volume buttons but with most cases they are so „hard“ to press that the phone shakes a little, making the pictures blurry

This is likely true, I saw a bug on a old beta version of iOS 18, where if you locked an app with Face ID and used that app’s in another app and covered your Face ID sensor, it would say “use Touch ID”

Fingerprint sensor on a side button is easy to do, many Andeoid phones have that too.

If apple does this, it would make me upgrade from my iP 7 Plus.

And I thought that Apple would one day manage to incorporate at least fingerprint on screen, if not even ultrasonic fingerprint on screen, into their €1000 smartphones.
