i have three instructions for anyone who wants to learn this vocal technique

1, look up "batzorig vanchig, chinggis khan"

the technique is called "kargyraa throat singing"

it uses the false cords in the throat, NOT the true vocal cords.

the false cords, also known as the vestibular folds, sit ABOVE the true cords.

ironically, false cords are used for both DEATH METAL vocals, AND kargyraa, both utilize the false cords.

kargyraa uses them in a controlled, steady manner, death growls flap them haphazardly in more of a roaring sound.


id recommend learning death growls first. (which is also cool as fuck) you have to learn how to feel what its like to use your false cords, (which makes a buzzing or roaring sound) AFTERWARDS, you can control them into a kargyraa.

2 look at the anatomy of the false cords and true cords, so you understand what is happening in your throat.

3 watch the video "riffshop, how to false cord" will help you safely feel your false cords.


also, every singer has a "daily limit" your throat will get raw. drink lots of water, and get some cough drops. (i learned that trick from the lead vocalist of eluveitie) helps you heal up faster for the next day. part of being a good vocalist is knowing when to shut up and stop for the day.


all in all, false cord took me a month to learn, and kargyraa came almost immediately after.

next, its just about building up vocal endurance.
