I know. It's just when this first came out it was called how to make a poster. But idiots who are too lazy to watch all the tutorials complained that this wasn't showing them how. I've watched all tutorials, and this video was helpful because I understand the simple processes already. I just needed to see how Valve does it.

i believe what they did was make the tonemapscale 0 and make a very bright light...maybe its 0.001 or somthing very small...but they added light to the scene to make it look a way that tonemapscale alone couldnt do. if you pause frequently around that part...you can see a giant spot of light on the ground...from a light directly above them with base features so as not to cast many shadows on the characters, then the other lights were added to get a more dynamic feel.

what does he do at 0:20, when the ground and the house turn dark? can anyone explain?
I can get similar results with camera settings, but then the fire looks darker too (decreasing cameras toneMapScale). How to make environment darker but keep the fire visible??

edit: I tried looking frame by frame and I can't see anything. Both ground and house simply turn darker, time lapse too fast!
