Deku was the only person who truly earned the spot to be a pro hero and what he gets for all that is being right back to where he was.

Look, I’m glad Horikoshi stuck to Deku losing his powers (as obvious as that was in the story) but he should’ve still gotten the recognition. He could’ve even kept the same scenes in the final chapters, just with him being hounded by fan girls like Bakugo and Todoroki or having all of his students at UA asking him about his fight with All for One, with him echoing the line “this is the story of how we became the #1 hero” or something like that. Even if it’s another stereotype it shows why Deku is the narrator (though that doesn’t NEED an explanation).

Also with the Uraraka and Deku ship he literally set up the perfect scene for a natural conclusion. Deku runs up to Uraraka who’s (spoiler) struggling with taking Togas life and Deku consoles her. All horikoshi had to do was have Uraraka mentally admit her feelings since Deku was always there for her (remember he saved her from the robot in the test and she saved him from the fall) and everything else could occur as it did with Chekhov’s gun satisfied. Maybe have that one mini panel in the final chapter where Uraraka and Deku are walking together seem more date like or have a ring be on his finger after the time skip. We don’t need some passionate kiss, but there should of been something to give closure on their relationship.

I feel like this ending would be more impactful if it served as more of a criticism of Deku’s attitude, since he didn’t just want to help people, he wanted to specifically do it as a “cool hero”. Something like this shows pretty well that he can still help people and be just as satisfied without a costume and superpowers.

Honestly, this ending has taught me one thing:

If your plan for a romantic subplot is to introduce the main potential pairing, spend a sizeable part of the series dropping huge hints that they both may like each other, never suggest any other alternative pairing concerning one or both characters, understandably not focus too much on it as it's mainly an action-oriented series, make it a big part of one of the two's character arc the fact they accept their feelings for the other instead of repressing them, finally give the two the chance right before the end to talk eye to eye and if not outright confirm the romance (as it's a really bad time for both of them) at least have them take one step closer to a confirmation, fumble the bag at the last second and then just end the series with zero confirmation of anything except some infuriatingly small hints to "leave things open to interpretation", then why the hell even bother with introducing said romance in the first place?

Yeah. Okay, to be honest I don't really have any real problems with this ending but I'm just a little salty about this in particular. Not even that much but come on

I just wish we had gotten more of an epilogue about quirkless Deku.
That and confirmation that he and Ochako ended up together. Felt like that was the direction that last scene went in, but then somehow he just doesn't see his friends and we don't see a wedding ring.
Being a teacher is a great position for Deku, but I honestly wish it was something actually involved in hero work. Specifically, I think Deku should have been a quirk counselor. It would have fit the themes of the show and Deku, as a character, perfectly. He can save people before they need saving and would have also been a fantastic lynchpin for his and Ochako's relationship considering how things turned out with Toga and Shigaraki.
