When We Left Earth - A Series Everyone Should Watch

This is the introduction to the superb 6-part 2008 Discovery Channel documentary series When We Left Earth. It's not perfect, but of all the space documentaries I've seen, I think it does the best job, covering a huge amount of ground in an up-beat and visually exciting manner, liberally interspersed with interviews of the actual men & women involved. It's quite accurate and provides all of the important details without getting bogged down in technical jargon; equally, it doesn't dumb things down to imbecilic levels like so many other documentaries do these days.

The entire series is just over 4 hours long, so it can comfortably be binge-watched in an afternoon or evening. I strongly recommend that everyone, from pre-teens to seniors, give it a watch.

As the space race heats up again, I think it's imperative that we all have some knowledge of where we've been, and why, if we want to not only understand what's going on in space-related development right now, but more importantly, how it will affect the future of humanity. And make no mistake, it *will* affect everyone profoundly.

The oxygen fire and many misshaps happened ... this doesn't tell the whole story, nor why we never returned to the moon.
