Here’s the #afrocuban rhythm #mozambique adapted for the #drumset

…originally a #conga rhythm made popular by Pello el Afrokan in #cuba & later popularized in NYC by Eddie Palmieri…

Where most Afrocuban rhythms can be performed in 2:3 or 3:2… This groove is one of the only Cuban rhythms that I only hear in a 2:3 #clave …

If you want to get better at the #drums check out my Study The Drum app... Take a 10-minute video tour of all the courses here:

As a punk drummer, it scratches an itch in my brain when drummers can create nice grooves that are played softly. This is a great example of that!

This is really like my favorite drum beat in the world. I won’t bore you with the reasons, but man it’s so satisfying to hear the full thing and to watch you build it. Right on!

Man, thank you. That’s the perfect lesson for me right now. I can see myself actually playing that this week. Just finished a basic rhumba. Took months, but what it’s done for my playing overall… the independence, swing one limb while keeping another straight… to even have that thought… is a benefit. 🔥

This guy came up randomly on YouTube and I’m fucking ecstatic he did. I wanted to hear where this could of gone if he opened up on the rolls at the end. Good job pal

Hey Jay. That's very cool beat. Even has a melody built in. Like everything that sounds good-is tricky to get.

Nice demo taking something bit complicated and simplified understanding it visual. Now it’s practice starting slow than fast. Thanks!

Ha! nailed it. I guessed it immediately! All I had to hear was the first drum kick as I read the title. I'm great at this!

Any dotted note takes up 1.5 times it’s value. Therefore, the dotted 1/8th note takes up 1.5 1/8 notes or equivalent to 3 16th notes. That’s the one the e and the and. The next note you see played is the 4th 16th note of the first beat, or the “a” of one. The notation is correct.

Awesome Jay!...I've been enjoying much of these styles, and your simplicity in layering the concepts! Thanks!
