Novation Peak - Yamaha CS-80 emulation - 'I Hear You Now' preset

The Novation Peak is a good hybrid synth for emulating classic analog synthesizers due to its flexibility. With the new update to allow custom waveforms, it's even better. I drew a few CS-80 waveforms (not very well since I had to it by hand with a mouse!) using the images in Omnisphere for the handful of CS-80 waves included in that program. Adding a CS-80 Saw/Pulse combo wave improved my "I Hear You Now" patch as it allowed me to have one oscillator for the "Bass" preset (which on the CS-80 used an oscillator with both pulse and saw turned on) and one oscillator for the "Electric Piano" preset (a stock square wave on the Peak).

If you play this back with the "CS-80 Famous Presets" video from the legendary BuggySawtooth, you'll see that it's fairly close. My audio card choked during recording to leave a small glitch, but I left it as is.

Very nice! I was waiting for system100 sequence to kick in.

Jon Anderson’s vocals are distinctive. I heard this piece in 1979 in W. Germany 🇩🇪 radio. I was stationed overseas and I bought vinyl while overseas

i've been waiting to see someone use wavetables on peak/summit in exactly this way. I'm not a huge fan of the harsh metallic wavetable sweep type stuff. but it seemed to me like there is great potential to use the wavetables as a workaround to emulate classic synth waveforms. The perfect waveforms from peak/summit are not very inspiring to me and its interesting how small changes to waveforms can make such a difference. your saw/pulse combo sounds like a cs-80 to my untrained ears. have you experimented any more with replicating classic waveforms? I'd love to see more experimentation in this regard. i don't know enough about synths to know whether copying the shape of a waveform will make those oscillators on peak function just like, say, a memory moog's oscillators would, if you emulate that shape. but i'm guessing you choose the right filters and other downstream things and you can pretty much use peak to replicate a whole bunch of classic synths, more or less.
