Winches, Pulleys & Wings (2 of 2) - Project Brupeg Ep. 170

How can you support Brupeg

This week Jess and Dame get stuck into the last parts of the winch assemble for our first wing lift. Yes, the wings have been up and down a few times but until now it has always been with patched up temporary systems, this episode you get to see the finished layout.

The new winch mount, aligned to the new stainless roof pulley, feeding down through the new handrail pipe, onto the new bulwark pulley, out to the new wing pulley and back to the bulwark termination pin! The winch is no longer running from any old battery we can wire up to work for the day but is connected to the lithium house bank and we finally get to see it working as it should.

We also clear up some confusion some viewers have had about why we are lifting the wing the way we are and why we didn't lift the arm instead of the wing.

Why do people insist on asking questions that were either answered in previous episodes or are just plain uninformed? If you don't have an engineering background and or are proficient in physics stop wasting their time with suggestions and questions! They know what they are doing; look how far they have come! This boat was sunk and sat on the bottom of a large body of water. They are VERY skilled, I like to think of myself as being a good engineer but this undertaking is definitely beyond my skills! I will be becoming a patron so that I can do a tiny bit to help in this amazing task. GO BRUPEG!!

It may be tricky to deploy these wings in anything but the calmest waters. A rocking boat will cause the sliders to hammer against the locking stops. Securing them will be a hazardous business.

Damian and Jess, you are models of patience and fortitude with well meaning but often under informed commenters. The idea that you haven't already thought stuff through is just not supported by the facts. Keep doing what you're doing, it's top shelf.

It's a joy to watch that wing stowing so neatly.

After all these years of watching your entertaining videos and with no mention of meat in your meals I would have picked your two to be vegos. It was great to see that beef stew on the stove today. I was beginning to think, "they're both from the meat producing South Island and they don't eat the stuff!!". Faith restored.

Those winch mounts will come in handy if you ever need to pull a supertanker off some rocks😉 Good to see captain Jess knocking around with the deckhand.

You said the other winch motor would stick out, surely it will re spool and therefore the motor can be inboard and going the opposite way, which will be so much prettier, great to see Jess up there with you !!

Awesome love the engineering😀👍 I think our world needs creativity and projects like Brupeg and SV Seeker enjoying watching learning about wing technology. Given me some ideas for Tiedamew our modest ship 🤔😁🌏#buzzofftoxic #tiedamew #NONPROFTLEADERSHIP #STOPBURNINGSTUFF

Love the editing where you went from cardboard (sorry black uv resistant professional cardboard) to steel as it was tacked into place. 😎

That's a Brupeg selfie stick! New CAD is a definite upgrade V3.0 I think. OH&S will be down on you guys as there was no Beep Beeps during raising or lowering won't tell. Great outcome guys one step closer to splash. Good to see you about Jess. Ingat all

Thanks for the great video guys, so good to see Jess up smiling, on the tools, and giving constructive criticism when needed .My wife, mrs Nostradamus often gives constructive criticism to myself, even to complete strangers if she feels the need .But it is great Jess is looking strong and happy, hopefully she's turned the corner health wise and takes her rightful role as captain.Cheers .

Those brackets are beautiful works of simplexity (the simplicity on the other side of complexity :-) )

It all adds up to an amazing piece of engineering. A very cool construct. Great seeing Jess up and around. She seems like a very patient boss. Between the two of you, there's enough energy on Brupeg to run the Southern Ocean without any engine. Keep on keeping on.

Great job! Might want to consider adding a second nut to the pulleys bolts to lock the first one, or maybe a cutter pin after the nut!
