The Arrival: a brief review

A quick review of Shaun Tan's The Arrival, a wonderful, wordless graphic novel.
I love Tan's work and the arrival is perhaps his greatest achievement, if you get the chance to check out anything he's done I highly recommend you take it.

I managed to get enough time to put this video together, enjoy!

I've not forgotten about the V for Vendetta video I promised a while back, I'm still waiting for a new tripod (you might have noticed I completely avoided tripod pans as they weren't as smooth as I'd like which becomes more and more frustrating the longer the video is, and I expect the V for Vendetta video will be a decent amount longer than this one if it pans [get it?] out the way I think it will).

As the uni break that allowed me to make this video will be coming to an end soon the next video will probably cover a game or two (they're a lot easier to capture footage for than trying my hand at camera work) and, hopefully with a new tripod, the V for Vendetta video should follow after a little gap in which I'll be focusing on assignments.

As always let me know how I can improve these videos or if you have any advice on how to make them. I'm always looking to improve my writing, editing and camerawork so any help you can give me in that area would be greatly appreciated.

I also cried while reading The Arrival. Although I am also an Australian, I ran into the book while perusing a school library in the USA. I later bought it and treasure it. I hope more people (adults) discover this book and Shaun Tan's other work.

Great book review and experience from a reader's perspective! I would to like to recommend the graphic novel 'The Arrival' by the Australian Artist and Author Shaun Tan to be launched at the International Organisation for Migration ( IOM- UN Migration) and at the United Nations Bookshop.

I really love contemporary graphic novels that challenge the viewers - either through its tonality, topics in discussion and/or visual execution.

I will have to get my hand on this graphic novel as it seems to fit within my wheel house.

I noticed from other videos you have asked individuals on how they noticed your videos and might I make the suggestions:

I had clicked your username after reading a comment on a Cracked video remarking about how you find it disappointing they don't take the extra time to write scripts. I, of course, being sassy and naturally curious decided to watch a video and review for myself the quality of your videos because apparently I am an inspector?! 😕... anyways, needless to say - I found them to be of a higher value. My point - I think that you need to continue utilizing the community aspect of advertisement, identifying videos that might have an audience similar to your own. Of course, refraining from spamming but simply adding meaningful additions in the comment section.

As well, continuing to create work you are passionate about while following some trends - such as discussing a popular video-game or book, or think of other fun ideas to draw a broader audience while staying true to your core... although I do enjoy your format from watching this and your most recent about movement - which was an interesting idea for a video.

Lastly, being a visual person myself, I think you need to look at how others draw attention though their icons or title cards (or whatever they are called). I think if your were to look at using images with more contrast, colour and play around with the format (example: for cellphone users your font might be too small). I have literally purchased albums because of their covers, at times to much dismay but it goes to show the power of the visual medium.

Hope that gives you some constructive things to consider.
