When opponent on top has a lot of pressure over inside shoulder/elbow and deep tight waist, the natural instict is to push up into opponent, however that opens up too much space underneath for opponent to go to work.

Bottom leg under driving into the tight waist and over the posted elbow alleviates the pressure and allows for a secondary move to escape.
