In our previous video, Matt explained the theory behind Volumetric Efficiency - today Scott (aka Tuning Fork) invites you to the dyno room for some hands-on demonstration of exactly how VE tuning happens in real life. Plenty of hints and tips ahead so put your "learning cap" on and let's go!
If you haven't already, we strongly recommend you watch Matt's Volumetric Efficiency video first:

This helps explain some of the magic and mystery, still seems magical and mysterious when your car drives onto the dyno, Scotty magic fingers it and then it drives off AMAZING

I paid to do EFI courses online and this one video taught me more than the whole course! Thank you!

I haven’t been on a tuning platform in almost 20 years - I’m about to dive back into it and this is like having cheat codes. My last Haltech was an E6K on a 13B-T 😂

Man that was good..I learnt so much...
this will be on repeat for a few times.
I love that you showed the interface in real time editing.

20 inches of vacuum you said. So, about 340 hectopascals? Takes me back to balancing carbies on motorcycles! The level of control we have over the combustion process these days is mindblowing compared to the old days. Thank you so much for explaining he process.

Great video Scott. The best description of air density I have seen was done by Gale Banks. He has several great episodes on air density and turbo charging on his channel.

This has to be the most thorough explanation of VE tuning that made sense to Scotty.

Thank you. After watching this video we chose to add "air flow" to the Haltech Elite log. Now we just divide the stated lb/hr airflow with 60 and look at the turbochargers compressormap to see were we are at. Then we can compare this to the dyno hp and calculate hp pr. lb/min of airflow. We find this usefull.

This could not be a better example to me, because this month i will finally install my Elite 1000 on my S13 (SR20). !

This actually helped me understand what an actual volumetric efficiency table is and what it does. Interesting fact that and also an untold truth that most tuners rely on 02 trim to get ve mapping correct.

I don't know if this explanation is crucial for people used to "the old way of tuning", but for me this was clear as day. This is exactly how I imagined it would work simply by watching MCM, The Skid Factory and Nugget Garage. I guess it may have helped that VE was part of the explanation by the guy who taught me the different operation modes of two-stroke, four-stroke and rotary engines (Youtube channel "The Workshop").

You just made so many things click together in my head, as I've been struggling to comprehend this vast world of tuning. Thank you so much! I feel a lot more confident now as a beginner to slowly start adjusting things; I've been scared to tweak anything past the basemap on my freshly turbo'd 1990 Miata running an Elite 1500, even when I identified an issue. Until I can schedule at a dyno tuning shop I've just been trying to take it easy, but wanted to tweak the minor AFR issues I saw. Now I feel like I can! You're the man!

Oh shoot, the tuning is really an art with Haltech! More I see these technical videos, more I incline to get one for my car. Thanks guys for these vids!

Man I'm starting to regret I bought a fuel tech ECU. I'm starting to love haltec from all your videos . Not downing my ft450. But man oh man you guys are great with videos and help

Just got a halted for my 33. With the added sensors mentioned here. Can't wait to put it all together and be able to drive it to my tuner with a closer base map for him.

Such a fantastic video. This with the theory video actually makes it all make perfect sense.

Great video, nice to see it explained in practice. Would love a similar practical video on the ignition, as its the part where many newbies like me start sweating, especially without a dyno.
