My mom said, “racism isn’t a problem anymore.” Ages 76, so I said, “okay, if that’s true would you want to be treated like you are black?” Dead silence, I continued, “if the answer is yes then racism isn’t a problem anymore. If the answer is no then racism is a problem & it’s a big one.”

My only hope as a white person is when we become the minority in this country that we are treated better than we have treated others as the majority. We don’t deserve it because our founders set up a system we still benefit from. It’s a complex issue with no clear answers but the best damn place to start is by recognizing the damage & not looking away when it makes us uncomfortable. Silence is compliance.
