You can use the wire stripper (little groove near the bottle opener) instead of spoiling the tweezers. It works in a single shot

With the firefly use the wire stripper on the bottle opener. Hold the rod in the notch with 1 finger and pull through. More consistant sparkage and much reduced chance of snappage

Fantastic idea to use the tweezers as a striker. Never thought about that. Thanks

I love the tweezer because it is very precise in removing the torn of cactus or to remove a single eyebrow hair

Thanks for sharing. If you add Blue Threadlocker to the screw before screwing it in, you can avoid having issues with it possibly loosening :)

Using the Firefly, Tortoise recommends using the edge as a striking surface as opposed to the wider flat side to help prevent breakage of the Firefly. Using the edge offers a bit more strength while scrapping.

Just ordered the Swiss Clip. I usually use a lanyard choked around my belt loop to suspend the knife in my pocket, secure as well as comfortable because the knife stays vertical. It doesnt work with my snowshoeing/ winter trekking attire though, so I think the clip be more handy than stashing my knife in the pack. One thing I noticed though is that clip is designed for a SAK with the key ring on the Awl side, some of my older ones have the ring on the wrong side for the clip to work.

Another great video. Very good idea to use the tweezer as the striker. From what I hear you can also use the wire stripper on the bottle lifter to pull the ferro rod through to create spark.

Great video, If you shave a small stick about pensile size to form a flat edge you can lay the ferro rod on the flat surface to help prevent it snapping during fire lighting use,

Great video! As far as the firefly, I think it's recommended to strike it on the skinny side to help give it as much structural integrity as possible over time. I would also recommend adding a 3X2 MM magnet to the hook or can opener ( can opener can take a 6X2mm magnet if you want) it's pretty cool that you can use it to magnetize the needle so you can use the needle to find north

As for the Firefly ferrorod - it's ment to be used in a vertical position, preferably supported by something solid underneath (split piece of wood etc.).
If you don't have a knife with a saw, which has a crisp 90° spine, just take a file and file down the rounded underside, which is hidden in closed position. Cap lifter and can opener, even that silly parcel hook, some models come with.

It’s OK to use this Firefly as your main source of fire if you know how to use it (and have good enough tinder). You can get hundreds of fires out of each rod. Mine came in an eight-pack. It doesn’t take too much trying before you really become proficient and can trust it.

Ive seen a lot of people say the best way to spark the fero is the wire cutter in the multitool.

Its advised to scrape the thin edge of the Firefly and support it along your index finger to help preveng brakeage. Plus scraping the wide flat surfacd will make it loose in toothpick slot....cheers

Thanks for the upload! I'd been looking at Swissqlips but here in the UK they really are horrendously expensive at over £30 including delivery. But I have just pimped up my Climber with a much more cost effective solution, an ebay seller here sells replacement scales with a pocket clip screwed in and glued on the inside. I bought black plus scales with a black clip, the screws are black too and he made a really good job of it, and they only cost £10 which you would pay for replacement scales without a clip on them anyway. So this is now a great urban EDC for my rotation which trumps a Compact imo as I rate the extra blade and reamer, plus those combination tools are very awkward to use on Philips screws whereas the can opener on my Climber can deal with them easily. The Fireant firesteels are also horrendously expensive so I'll pass on those too, I always have a larger firesteel on me anyway, in my home made ''cache belt'', it's like the expensive Wazoo ones but is just a basic nylon belt with a zipped compartment on the inside in which I keep a basic survival kit, similar to what many people keep in an Altoids tin, including firesteel, storm matches, purification tablets, alcohol wipes, emergency cash, and a Ruike S11 knife as a last ditch backup blade. Probably overkill living it London lol but I don't notice it's there and better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it.

@urbanknifeguy , actually, the black knife in your video has the best tool to strike the wire stripper in the bottle opener works flawless
