Introduction to symmetry protected and symmetry enriched topological order Part 1- Lukasz Fidkowski

Seminar given by Lukasz Fidkowski at EPiQM Summer School on May 31, 2017
Recently it has become understood that global symmetries in many-body quantum systems can lead to new, so-called symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases of matter, as well as to additional distinctions between known classes of topological order. We will give a general overview of topological order, and the additional quantized invariants that distinguish between different SPT and SET states. We will also show how these ideas are interlinked in the realization of anomalous topologically ordered states at the surfaces of SPTs.
