Remember in the 3rd episode Speirs tells Blyght that his problem was he still had hope of surviving. Speirs went on to say " You have to consider yourself alread dead. That way you can operate like soldier has to." Speirs simply demonstrated his outlook of "this needs to be done, im already dead so I'll so it"

Speirs was a natural born soldier (Born in Scotland)🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. He reached the rank of Lt. Col, the exact same rank his son Robert Speirs (from his English wife he met while stationed in England) would attain in the Royal Green Jackets, in the British Army. Fact is often stranger than fiction!
