When my father passed a few years ago, writing was the only way I could feel anything for a long time.

I used to write a lot of poetry as a kid whenever I felt bad. Later it turned into more letter-like writing, either directed to myself or the person that happened to hurt me that time. Now I sometimes write music to deal with the thoughts I can't put into words. Writing, in any shape or form, has helped me process my emotions so much through the years. It's one of the first things I tell people who are looking for solutions when something is nagging at their mind. Write it down, and feel the weight drop off your shoulders.

I have the greatest respect for this young lady. She said it, how it is. I wish I could shake your hand! There are so many people suffering, so many people who feel invisible because other people ignore them, ignore their pain. Just sayin I‘m no exception. I‘ve been on both sides. The fear of standing up for someone else‘s rights, is paralysing. Even for your own rights, it‘s never easy. You sometimes think, ahhh just don‘t take things so personal, they didn‘t mean it that way. But they did, and they thrive on your pain. And when someone else is being bullied, onlookers are just glad it‘s not them. The point is: We all have only one life to live. So how can any human being waste even 1 second on hate crimes? When love, respect & empathy are so much more powerful! Now I‘m going to listen again to this awesome talk.

This Tedtalk, hits me in the deepest emotional side of my life. It brings back a story I have decided to hide forever, I'm really wondering what I'll do with this newly founded discovery of the dangers of silence and the importance of telling a story, one chooses to hide. Whew!

Writing creative, fantasy or science fiction stories as I think of them, usually in stressful times is such a wonderful way to get through it all

I am 10k+ words into writing a fiction book that I have wanted to write for years. I started just before Christmas and write 200+ words a day as part of a 75 day challenge to myself where I am seeking to improve my mental and physical health.

Writing is a magical alchemical act.
It is important to understand that there are people in the world who believe that the only way to lift themselves up is to bring someone else down, and they do it to give their shame to another person. We must not accept their shame as our own.

This is the best thing about writing I've seen in the decades I have been teaching and writing about writing. Thank you, Sakinah.

I could not agree more! I have a BFA in creative writing, and beside all the technical training, it is still one of the most cathartic things to turn to when in a moment of tension. Even more fictional writing can help open up the channels to let you process things you’ve experienced if writing directly from your own perspective is too close, too intimate for comfort.

Writing is therapeutic. It gives you the place and time to express your deepest thoughts, often those which we suppress and find it hard to articulate.
Cdl George Pell wrote while in prison for a heinous crime he did not commit. It certainly is a way to communicate with your soul and find healing
