Here at JoBlo Horror Originals we talk a lot about gateway horror films. This started as a massive blockbuster novel from one of sci-fi’s greatest and the adaptation was a sure thing. Both are regarded as musts in their respective medias, but which is better and how well did they get it from page to screen? Hold on to your butts as we see if the creators were so preoccupied with if they could adapt this work that they never asked if they should as we find out what happened to this adaptation!

I love how in the Camp Cretaceous animated series, Yaz talks about how the original owner of the park fell down, broke his leg, and was eaten by compies. When she was told he died of natural causes and asked where she heard that, she said that she read it somewhere.

I like that Hammond's character was soften in the movie. But, it would've been cool to see Dennis Nedry's gory death in the jeep.

Fun fact, in 1994 Michael Crichton is the only person in history to be behind the #1 show (ER), #1 novel (Disclosure), and #1 movie (Jurassic Park) at the same time

Read the novel before the film and I love both versions of Jurassic Park, but wouldn't mind eventually getting a much darker remake that's more aligned with the book.

You are one of the only people that I've ever heard reference The Gate as a gateway to horror. As someone born in 84, I 100% feel that. The Gate scared the living hell out of me as a kid and it is still one of my favorites to this day. It always surprises me how little it gets mentioned. Totally underrated movie. For me, it was definitely Jurassic Park and Aliens as my own personal introductions to horror, but the "demon under the bed" scene in The Gate is burned into my childhood memory, as well.

They made three movies out of the first book. The second book is mostly ignored. That happend. And they cut out all the carnage candy and made the characters way more likeable.

The timing of this was uncannily perfect. I just started rewatching some animated Jurassic Park novel scenes over the weekend

God, can you imagine an R rated James Cameron JURASSIC PARK film!? Even today I would be perfectly okay with that REMAKE!

I was 9 when jurassic park came out, and very shortly after seeing the movie I read the book. Just kinda jumped into a fully adult level book at that age and never looked back! I realize now I've actually forgotten a lot of the book since then.

This is one of those rare occasions where both the book and film are equally good, to me at least. I read the book a few months before the film came out and I loved the movie, too. I would've love to see the bigger action sequences from the book made it onto the screen but the technology back in those days could not make those scenes happen.

I watched the movie dozens of times when I was a kid, I didn’t read the books till I was a teen but I enjoyed the books so much more than the movies whenever I finished them.

This is one of those movies I look forward to showing my kids when they get older.

I haven't read Jurassic Park in like 15 years. I think it may be time for a revisit

The opening of the book is fantastic. I can't understand why they changed it so much...

I as well am a 1985 child. I saw Jurassic park 7 times in the theater.

I couldn’t imagine doing that today.

The best parts of most movies come from the first book but they still missed the rocket launcher.

I honestly love both versions, but if you haven’t read the book, you’d probably be surprised of some of the awesome stuff that didn’t make it into the movie.

I would love nothing more than for the last 3 movies to not exist

The book is great for diving into the moral dilemas that are more or less just touched on in the movie.
