The classic era of drive-in schlock was near its end in 1959, but there was still time for The Giant Gila Monster and The Killer Shrews, a pair of no-budget howlers from producer Gordon McLendon. In The Giant Gila Monster, a lizard takes on a small town. If that's not enough for you, there are plenty of cool cars and some ersatz rock 'n' roll sung by the movie's star, Don Sullivan (The Monster of Piedras Blancas). The Killer Shrews stars James Best (The Dukes of Hazard) as a riverboat pilot stuck on an island where the shrews are the size of German Shepherds. The cast includes Ken Curtis (Gunsmoke) and Ingrid Goude (Miss Universe, 1957). These two features were originally released on a double-bill. Trust us – they belong together!

Excited about the Film Masters label. I hope we get a lot more ‘50’s sci/fi & horror movies. This is a terrific start!

I'm also excited about the prospect of more old sci-fi being released on Blu-ray by Film Masters (or whomever). I understand they're apparently owned by Susan Hart, but it would be really great if someone could adequately compensate Ms Hart so that some of the old AIP films such as "Invasion of the Saucer Men", "I Was a Teenage Werewolf", etc. could see the light of day on Blu-ray!

Really looking forward to seeing the ideas and ideals behind this label. It almost seems like a contradiction in terms to hear of nice HD quality copies of public domain films, but I want to believe! Appetites are whetted! Best of luck to you folks and know that I’ll be a loyal customer. One quick question: Not sure if I missed it on this video, but will GILA and/or SHREWS include their original theatrical trailers? Hope so!
