I remember the story about the man in the woods but it was a bit different. They said he hang his victims up in the trees by chains to keep the people away.

I thought the story was true when I was little
I was about 7 years old give or take. Me and my classmates often saw broken chains from the tree branches.
( it was used to yank the overgrown branches but we didn’t know that )
One day a kid went into the woods never came back out, we heard a scream that day it was loud, everyone ran up to the forest only to find a trail of blood.

We found out a couple years later that He had been jumped by a Wolverine and dragged back to its layer.
