'90s TV Moments That Outraged Viewers

As far as nostalgia goes, the ‘90s is a decade that many look back on with a heavy dose of. TV in particular is full of fond memories surrounding actors, shows, or even particular episodes — no ‘90s TV aficionado will ever forget Saved by the Bell’s “Jessie’s Song,” after all.

Because they’re so beloved by so many, it’d be easy to assume that ‘90s TV shows were generally free from controversy, but that isn’t the case at all. Some of our favorite shows of the era had to deal with a fair amount of backlash. Here are some of the times '90s TV shows outraged fans.

Did you stop watching any of these shows or were these fans overreacting?

To this day the X-Files episode "Home" still induces nightmares. It was disturbingly awesome.

I love season 6 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I am the biggest Buffy fan I know, and I can safely say Season 2 and Season 5 were the most epic adventures while Season 6 was a refreshing breath of fresh air. We deserved to see what life was like on a semi-regular basis for the Scooby Gang when they didn't have to worry about some end of the world crisis, and then we got a surprise Big Bad with Dark Willow as well. It was a near perfect season capped off with the perfect 3-part finale. It was experimental, nuanced and it's the season I can regularly go back to and start watching from any episode onwards. The season that REALLY sucks was Season 7. Once they introduced Kennedy, the show quality fell off a cliff.

I can't believe that it took something as simple as a haircut for fans to abandon "Felicity" at the drop of a hat. Still, Keri looked pretty with both long and short hair, in my opinion.

I felt so bad for Keri Russell when people were losing their minds about her drastic haircut. I'll be honest, people would pay for such beautiful hair. I followed her career since Malibu Shores and I will be honest I was shocked when I saw that she cut it, but it wasn't anything to boycott a show over and it grew back. I felt sorry for her because that let her know that she would be locked into that hairstyle for a long time and women usually change their hairstyles.

The sixth season of Buffy is amazing, especially if you consider it with the series as a whole. But I do remember at the time so many people were just not into it. I love season 6. I even loved it at the time.

The X-Files didn't outrage fans. It outraged the censors. I remember when the story broke about it being banned. There was no mention of viewers' complaints.
I remember the Beavis and Butthead story. After that, they weren't allowed to say "fire" anymore. One time after that, Beavis said, "Liar liar pants on.. Whoa. heh heh heh". That was awesome.

I didn't watch Felicity, but I remember that outrage🤣

I never watched Felicity, but rage quitting because of a haircut? That sounds ridiculous to me.

Man, that x files episode freaked me out when I was a kid. That one and one with a werewolf and the one with the Fiji mermaid... great vid. Yo from South Africa 🤘🏻

I have to say I'm with Joss Wheaton on season six of Buffy. You don't just come back from the dead and go la-di-da and go on with your life. That's going to be a long, painful adjustment and there are going to be lasting consequences. I applaud Joss for showing that!

Of all the shows listed, I only watched "Buffy the Vampire Slayer, " and yes, I watched every season of "Buffy, " as well as its spinoff, "Angel." In fact, I AM long overdue to watch both series, , again, from the beginning.

I will never forget that X files episode. I was such a fantastic show. They truly don't make them like that anymore. So grateful I grew up in the 90s.

Didn't know season 6 of Buffy was hated, wasn't the best, but had a share of great episodes, and Dark Willow was entertaining. Way more entertaining than the Riley/Adam season.
