Aggressive. As a bonus action, the gazer can move up to its speed toward a hostile creature that it can see.

Mimicry. The gazer can mimic simple sounds of speech it has heard, in any language. A creature that hears the sounds can tell they are imitations with a successful DC 10 Wisdom (Insight) check.

Familiar. The gazer can serve another creature as a familiar, forming a telepathic bond with its willing master, provided that the mater is at least a 3rd-level spellcaster. While the two are bonded, the master can sense what the gazer senses as long as they are within 1 mile of each other. If its master causes it physical harm, the gazer will end its service as a familiar, breaking the telepathic bond.

Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage.

Eye Rays. The gazer shoots two of the following magical eye rays at random (reroll duplicates), choosing one or two targets it can see within 60 feet of it:

1. Dazing Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed until the start of the gazer’s next turn. While the target is charmed in this way, its speed is halved, and it has disadvantage on attack rolls.

2. Fear Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the start of the gazer’s next turn.

3. Frost Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or take 10 (3d6) cold damage.

4. Telekinetic Ray. If the target is a creature that is Medium or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be moved up to 30 feet directly away from the gazer.

If the target is an object weighing 10 pounds or less that isn’t being worn or carried, the gazer moves it up to 30 feet in any direction. The gazer can also exert fine control on objects with this ray, such as manipulating a simple tool or opening a container.

Technically speaking, since the eye rays are not attacks, the gazer familiar can still use those, even when not in the service of a warlock.

I took a Gazer's Eye and turned it into a Wand after finding the suggestion in a Monster Loot book that I was pretty sure was fan-made but the DM allowed it. Once a day you roll a D4 and based on what you land it can use Mage Hand, Ray of Frost, Fear, or Confusion.

Also btw 3rd level caster is different from being able to cast 3rd lv spells it's specifically going off of a player's caster levels which is also separate from overall level so example if you were a lv 3 chain warlock but lv 2 fighter you'd be a lv 3 caster allowing you to get a gazer familiar

I have an very odd Orc Warlock that is a celestial. The Gazer was formed during the vision quest taken by most Orc who take the Oath of Vengeance when an orc scarifies one eye. My warlock was to be the shaman to do the right. When my vision happened I saw Gruumsh and Luthic (the mother bear) talking out peace with Great Mother (The first Beholder). I was given a blessing or curse My sacrifice was given to the Great mother who formed it into a Gazer to serve me and her own interest of making sure the orc tribes would not disturb her children. I even told the DM to make him more of an wanted allie. The game was in an All Orc game making me the healer spell caster and noble. Also one scary dude

Now that tasha's is out the Gazer works wonders with the Invocation investment of the chain masters so now you can use the rays more often and they activate more often and also their mimicry save also gets boosted making this familiar a great tool for very specific things such as if a magic item can only be activated by a certain person's voice and more likely situation of using mimicry while the gazer is invisible from the spell (side benefit but the rays are neither a spell or attack so it doesn't get rid of invisibility) to lead a group of enemies somewhere so you can either get the drop on them or you could sneak past and probably loot their stuff while they're distracted

You could say Gazer have an "Eyes" on you!

I think you should let them have Gazer with no Downside, Warlock do run out Spell very fast and Tougher Enemy will make Saving Throw easily.

This the chain invocation that lets them use your spell DC and flock of familiars....😮

Why is this not a familiar you can get as a pact of chain warlock? An aberration like this would be perfect for a great old one pateon

The fact that a familiar can't attack is a big problem-- but I wonder if using a dazing or fear ray might br okay?

It has nothing but eyeballs so I'd hope it would have good perception.

So do the eye rays count as an attack action? I wouldn’t think so, so that would mean anyone with find familiar could use it right?

...Can Warlocks have it as a Familiar?

How do you make it random on eye rays do you just roll a d4 and whatever it lands on is what it cast and reroll duplicates?
