God I love this book so much!! I bought it without knowing anything about the story, just got it because of how BEAUTIFUL the book itself it`s. The only thing I didn´t really like was the end; like, I think everything happened soo fast, I wish the author would've write one more chapter, an epyloge or something :(

I was screaming at the moments when I thought Lucian wasn't ever going to get his memories back!🤣 This is definitely my favorite book by far!

[SPOILER ALERT]
Your copy is beautiful!! Great summary and analysis as well! I’m glad we share some opinions, I thought I was the only one… For starters, I really found the unraveling of the story interesting; although, I felt a little bored and out of context throughout the first few chapters. For example, when Emmett is sent away to Seredith, I thought perhaps would symbolize a significance or lesson in Emmett’s life because she hardly served any other purpose in the story, and also dies early on. As a result, she didn’t teach the boy much and she kept the act of binding a secret from him for a while, keeping the vault and nearly every room locked. When Emmett begins to have curiosities and inquires, Seredith would always tell him not to worry, being that he was a natural-born binder and she ‘knew’ it. Then Emmett learns a bit more about binding from de Havilland — although he wasn’t very useful to Emmett either he did speak to him more about binding. The story then moves on to Emmett being back home after only completing and binding one individual himself. He went from beginner to intermediate all in one sitting. Where is the practice? The craft?… On that note, I was left wanting more!

Also, the way the author switched narration from Emmett to Lucian at the near end, wasn’t as clear as it should’ve been IMO. I couldn’t gather what direction the book was headed in until I was almost halfway through it. I luckily caught on to the change in character POV/narration but emphasizing the characters name under their particular chapter helps.

I didn’t expect it to be focused so much on Emmett and Lucian’s relationship either, but I guess it was a nice element, adding some dimension to the overall plot while drama is woven within the almost love triangle between Alta, Lucian and Emmett. At first I thought that given the name, it would be more about book binging. But then again, a novel centered on book binding would be educational rather than enjoyable so I get that. For these reasons, I would still recommend it to genuine readers who have a love for books.

They way you describe the atmosphere of this story reminds me of Natasha Pulley's "Watchmaker of filigree Street". Set in 19th century London it is also a rather rather slow story (despite there being explosions), some minor magical elements and it takes its time with the Charakters. I just randomly picked it up at the bookstore and I loved that book, so I think I really should try the binding, I love those 'calmer' stories.

I loved this book. It's impossible to put down, it draws you in. By the time I finished, I felt absolutely overwhelmed. It's such an emotional rollercoaster but so, so worth it.

Wow that book is stunning!
It sounds so interesting and I put it on my TBR and I can't wait to read it. It sounds so incredible and right up my alley. I have such a big fascination with memory (especially since I have a very unusual memory) and getting to explore it in a book is just SO cool. I'm always looking for more queer rep, so that's a plus too. And I love slow-paced books as well. I'm super excited now. Great review, Huck.

I'm SO excited for this. I've been in front of the hold line for it at my library since January, can't wait for it to come out in the US!

This sounds AMAZING. It sounds like such a creative way to explore those themes of morality you mentioned, and how the same things can either be used as a kindness or a way to hurt people.

I love this book so much, but I think it could have done with just one more chapter. I just want a little bit more of a falling action, to know even a bit about their fate

I absolutely loved this book but I read the audiobook (very good btw) and now I need the physical copy, but my book store had a very plain hardback :(( anyone knows where I can buy the pretty hardback version online? What edition to look for?

I've been longing for this book for so long. I wanted to make sure I'm not buying it just for the cover. I'm such a sucker for beautiful books but seeing as my collecting keeps growing i want to buy something i will read and enjoy, i do believe i will with this one!

I just finished reading this book and I agree with every point you touched upon in your video! It would've been better if they could put trigger warnings somewhere. I was not at all okay after the "animal cruelty" part.

oh man, my naked hardback is boring and blue with no designs...i was saying to myself, jeez a book about books and the naked hardback is ugly. Your hardback fits the book theme so much better
