You're eating a chocolate bar in the sewer, I think getting some peanut butter on it is the least of your worries.

I could see it happening. I loved eating peanut butter out of the jar. I’ve taken it to work and eaten it right out of the jar with a spoon. And I loved Reece’s cups and am sitting here now eating a long 5 pack. It’s sooo good!

Even as a kid I always would watch this commercial thinking who walks around eating peanut butter in a jar on the streets 🤔

I recall these ads from the 70s but didn't think they dated all the way back to 1970.

Maybe kindergarten age, at the shopping center near my home, walking in the parking lot and trying my first Reese's peanut butter cup: I had fully bought into the hype from the television that it was the product of a miraculous accident wherein chocolate and peanut butter had collided together for the first time in history.

When the film E.T. came out several years later, and Reese's Pieces became the craze because the E.T. liked them, I remember feeling they were an abomination of the formula, with the clear and hard civilizimg force of their candy shells. Absent was the spontaneous order of their predecessor, the cup that emerged zen-like from chaos as a sweet blessing to humanity. The "pieces" were a betrayal.

In the television commercial, "You got chocolate in my peanut butter!" seemed the peak of one person's frustration after the accident. While "You got peanut butter in my chocolate!", was the wailing response. Then, those unfortunate people both tasted the result of the tragedy. What on earth had this seemingly terrible moment engendered? Pure yummyness. Pure Yummyness was snatched from the jaws of a seeming terrible fall from grace.

I only today realized that this parable may have been the convention of a marketing department to sell candy.

And I am wondering if people may have combined peanut butter and chocolate prior to 1970.

Commercial: Guy falls into the hole and lands on the construction guy, both come out unscathed.

Reality: Guy falls into the hole and lands on the construction guy, both 💀💀 and the third guy discovers Reese's.

And we'll just ignore that a random dude walking thru a construction site eating a jar of peanut butter, falls into a dirty ass hole in the ground and he and the construction worker pop up eating dirty ass peanut butter and chocolate?? Yep, that happens everyday 😏😏

Did it used to come in a box like that?

Reese’s still has that same logo in 2023. So did they ever change their logo at all?
