I'm Chinese and I don't hate the US or India, I quite like them. Why do people have to hate each other because of the government? Come on. Government care about their benefits, we people should care about friendship because we are one.

It really didn't come as a surprise to many especially those who have years of dealings experience in the US. However it does put people off when Trump and his administration do it so outwardly blatant, in such uncivilized manner.

Ironically, the rules-based international order (often referred to as the US-led liberal international order) has been adopted to mean the contemporary international relations organised around the principles of international cooperation through multilateral institutions like the U.N., and the W.T.O., open markets, security cooperation, promotion of liberal democracy, and leadership by the United States and its allies.

But that leadership is fast deteriorating; and more evidently so with Trump in the Oval Office.

The world had witnessed the beginnings of the greatest presidential onslaught on international law and international institutions in the entire American history.

Unfortunately, the US exceptionalism has been unchallenged for far too long, and that has turned Washington into a giant of an internal bully contemptuous of the very rules-based international order it had help to establish.

The onslaught appears to be driven by a combination of Trump’s “America First” economic nationalism, and anti-multilateralism; and the belief that international law does not reflect American values but threatens American institutions, and that American peace, prestige, and prosperity were not being served by its foreign policy.

Trump administration formally notified the United Nations on November 4, 2019, that the United States will withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change, under which nearly 200 nations have pledged to cut greenhouse emissions and to help poor countries cope with the worst effects of an already warming planet.

Trump’s anti-free trade policy in fact, started with the United States withdrawing from the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact. TPP was a major trade initiative of the Obama administration. Trump too had made it clear that the United States will renegotiate the other trade deals; such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta), which was signed in 1994 by the United States, Canada and Mexico, as among them.

The United States has sought to dismantle the Geneva-based WTO; and they had already hobbled the WTO by dismantling its panel that oversees the appeals process.

The United States had also officially quit the U.N. educational, scientific and cultural agency, UNESCO. Perhaps, the culmination of a process triggered by the allegation that the organization fosters anti-Israel bias. On July 7, the Trump Administration formally notified the United Nations that the United States will withdraw from the World Health Organization.

“We are not in a crisis of multilateralism. It is a bluff.. But if every country backs down one by one, then the bully gets the way. This issue is too important to be determined by Mr Trump. It’s not just Mr Trump. Because US unilateralism has been invoked now for about 20 years. After 1992 the U.S. went crazy...But it gets a lot worst right now, because of the over-hostility against everybody; and the threat against everybody; the lawlessness against everybody; is completely unprecedented, ” says Professor Jeffrey Sachs.
