John Locke is often regarded as one of the fathers of liberal democracy. In his state of nature, people are born with a Tabula Rasa, or blank slate. Because of this, his social contract considers the importance of governments existing to protect people's inalienable rights of life, liberty, and property.

John Locke, his 'Two Treatises of Government' inspired the writing of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of 1789 and the other declarations of Human Rights of the time. The words of these statements are borrowed of the 'Two Treatises of Government.'

I'm curious. Where does John Locke mention the phrase 'tabula rasa' or 'blank slate'?

As an aspiring musician and painter, I always preferred to not take lessons or have others instruct me. I believe it would skew my personal "sound" or "image" I was going for.

Basically, if someone else teaches me their method or style, I'll wind up making that persons art instead of my own. I believe tabula rasa validates those feelings I have.
