Washington D.C. Emergency Dispatch

00:08: (Clyde Wilson, Electronic Engineer - Office of Unified Communications) Without communications the city can go crazy.

00:11: (LaDonna Wright, Assistant Watch Commander - Office of Unified Communications) Without communication, I don’t know what this officer is up against. He’s not able to communicate and say “hey, send me help.” So communication is key to what we do. Without communication, it’s just chaos.

00:29: (LaJuan Sullivan, 9-1-1 Chief of Operations - Office of Unified Communications) We receive calls from citizens for 9-1-1 services, police, fire, and ambulance.

00:35: (Khalilah Parris, 9-1-1 Call Taker - Office of Unified Communications) When the call comes in, we gather the address from the caller, which is the most important thing, address, address, address. And then what is the emergency? With those two pertinent information it then goes over to dispatch.

00:48: (Desirae Dammons, 9-1-1 Call Taker - Office of Unified Communications) We calm irate citizens down by letting them know we’re here to help them.

00:52: (LaDonna Wright, Assistant Watch Commander - Office of Unified Communications) The dispatcher uses the radios to transmit information to the officers. That information is relayed out into the field so the officers can have everything they need when they get to a scene.

01:04: (Bianca Bennett, Police Dispatcher - Office of Unified Communications) We have to maintain the locations of all the officers. We have to make sure that everyone is informed and make sure that everyone gets what they need in order to perform their duties.

01:16: (LaJuan Sullivan, 9-1-1 Chief of Operations - Office of Unified Communications) I love the fact that I can make informed decisions and guide our employees on making decisions that are very vital and key to saving citizens lives.

01:26: (Clyde Wilson, Electronic Engineer - Office of Unified Communications) When you have good technology and a vendor that you could work with at any given call, it makes the job tremendously easy. Motorola products is one of the best vendors that we ever dealt with. They’re 24/7, anytime we have an issue it gets dealt with and we need that in a rapid time.

01:43: (Bianca Bennett, Police Dispatcher - Office of Unified Communications) What brings me back is helping others. I like to help people in the community and I want our community to be safe. That’s what keeps me going.

COMPLEXITY MANAGED. CALM PREVAILS.
