Doctor Who: Battles in Time was a trading card game that was produced during the Series 1-4 era of Doctor Who, and had several sets featuring characters and monsters from Classic and Modern Who. This also included a lot of Dalek-themed content, which we will cover today among other things.

I loved Battles in Time and Monster Invasion. Never was big on collecting cards for most things, but for Doctor Who it was a lot of fun. Much better and kinder on money than the more recent Magic Doctor Who sets (I'm an adult now and could afford them, but haven't bought them because they're just not worth how much extra they cost to me).

I can’t wait till they bring it back and we get gems like “The Doctor (in court wig)” and “The Not Things (wedged in a corridor)”

The Dalek Wars splash pages in the Battles in Time magazines were my lifeblood as a kid. I could stare at them for hours and they’d fuel my imagination for even longer with all of my action figures and other toys. Good times

Also, was that Simpsons: Hit & Run music at the end of the video!?

I absolutely loved this set as a kid! Favourite card was easily the underwater Dalek. I only wish we had more!

The Dalek invasion of Mars is not a particularly interesting invasion. We show up, there is no resistance, there is nothing to conquer, we win.

The battles of time cards kind of continued in the Matt smith era with the monster invasion cards it had the new paradigm and ironside daleks as well as new who monsters from series 1-6 and classic who villains

The Moffatt era did have its own card game. It wasn't anywhere near as good, but it was definitely a thing!

I remember getting the Super Rose card and feeling like I had a literal bar of gold under my bed.

But then I got the scratch ‘n’ sniff Slitheen…

Oh man I love Battles In Time. Me and my dad ended up collecting the whole line including the one offs like the Sarah Jane set and the Daleks vs Cyberman set. Pretty sure those were both magazine exclusive.

If there's one thing I remember collecting one thing that is Doctor Who related as a kid, it wasn't DVD's (until years later), but rather this magnificent card game every fortnight instead until the Ultimate Monsters range came out. I currently have no idea where my old collection is and I never got them all. No Devastator. No Super Rose.

That was until I think 2022 and spent big money and completed my collection of them as they were mostly complete sets. Had to buy only a few of them remaining I needed separately. But it was worth it to relive all of my memories again and now I own every card and every magazine that had been made for them. I don't plan to make the same mistake twice by losing my collection all over again and plus, I even have some of my cards signed by the actor and/or actress that played said character on the card.

I agree with you though that some of the choices they made about what's common and what's rare are questionable. Like why is Absorbaloff from Love and Monsters a rare while Sarah Jane Smith is a common? What?

But anyway, they were a massive part of my childhood and I really enjoy the series as a whole as it is something I collected before DVD's and Blu rays. They were, for the most part, phenomenal and the artwork for the Dalek cards? Just incredible stuff to represent The Doctor's oldest and most deadly enemy.

I'm just imagining what they would have done with the Asylum Daleks.
