Thomas Sowell said it best.. “I have never understood why it is considered selfish too keep what you have earned but not selfish to take from others that which you have not earned.”

I knew a man years ago who grew up in the Soviet Union. He said no one worked to their potential because there was no incentive to do so. They got paid the same whether they worked harder or did the bare minimum. He escaped, came to the US, got a job, earned enough money to go to college, and worked hard to become a successful businessman. He cried when he became a US citizen because he believed there wasn't another country in the world that offered the opportunities available to anyone in the US who was willing to work hard to better themselves. God bless you, Alexi, wherever you are now.

Shapiro was on fire in this one more than I've ever seen. I'm actually saving this one.

The importation of 20 million people with little skills also inflates the bottom strata.

20 years ago Thomas Sowel wrote about the mobility between income groups maybe if people tried reading sometime they could set aside their envy.

Winston churchill said something like: "Capitalism might be unequal distribution of wealth, but socialism is the equal distribution of misery", or so I remember...

Some students were interviewed and said they were all for (financial) Socialism. But when asked if they would give a fellow student with a low GPA some of their GPA to even out the score, they ALL instantly discovered Capitalism. It was a GENIUS question to ask them.

I'm far from being rich but I'm not jealous of those who are more wealthy than I am. You have to be pretty bitter to believe in wealth redistribution. How can you justify it? It's theft and no one has a right to take another's money just because they are richer!

I worked for 47 years and my wife and I are now retired (58 and 56 years old).
We worked our butts off and lived like we were poor so now we can live free from having to work before we turned 60.
You can do this too.
Start by saving as much as you can and stop buying crap you don’t need.
Stop shopping at the corner store and plan your purchases better.

those points on income mobility and overall quality of life increasing regardless of constant comparison by looking at gaps are so simple yet so important and misunderstood by so many, , this was excellent, I really hope people can better understand basic economics

When you threaten to take away my 'reward' for hard work by giving it to others, I no longer strive to improve myself. However, when the carrot is so far out of my reach and never seems to get any closer, it could do the same thing. I do believe you can improve your situation, but on;y if you stop comparing yourself to others constantly.

He just forgot one item: save your money. That is how Andrew Carnegie began his ascent into extreme wealth.

The Cornell student should work his butt off, graduate Suma kum laudi, and then give half of his GPA to another student who has the lowest GPA to make things equal. The student with the low GPA hasn't had the opportunities to work as hard for a higher GPA. They'll both graduate with a C...what's not to love!
