What's the deal with Seraphon anyway? I mean aren't they just a little inexplicable? Despite having changed an incredible amount since the end of the World That Was, their model line's hardly been touched. In this first episode of a new series of shorter video essays, we're going to do a quick rundown of why the Seraphon are, in my eyes, so weird and conflicting. Are they the coolest Age of Sigmar faction or the lamest? It's kinda both.

Not everything has to look like meta models with 1000 little details. There's little no appreciation for simple infantry in AOS, and it's nice to have that with the Seraphon.

Yeah, that was something that always seemed underdeveloped to me. So many forces in Age of Sigmar really need a model update to fully push through their concepts and I'd put the Seraphon right up there with the Cities of Sigmar (but even then we're getting gubbins kits for the Dawnbringer Crusaders sometime 'soon'). The Seraphon as we have them now are 'fine' for the coalesced clade of them, but we absolutely need the sentient stardust cosmic warrior types who feel like they'd be inspiring for even the Stormcast to look upon.

It'd be a pastiche to see them portrayed a la the Kukulkani of Dark Age (another miniatures game); but something that at least leaned into Mesoamerican Divine Avatar of Order would be nice. Something that, at the very least, could seem somewhat applicable to a new thing in the Olde World if you just painted them a bit different. Though even that would have made a lot of difference in their general presentation for AoS - paint their scales as Nebulae and give them weapons and shields that look more garish/ancient/high magic than a Stormcast.

But I'm rambling at this point. Great video! I hope you cover Fyreslayers at some point. I got to write their part in the Soulbound: Champions of Order book and doing research on them quickly made them my favorite faction. Slayer culture by way of seeking to resubstantiate an omnipresent force into a chosen warrior so that they may suffer ego death to be reunified with the godhead -- and damn if that doesn't get buried. Doomgron really ought to have been front-ended, and I stand by that.

As a lizardmen player (I refuse to use the name of Malekith's dragon to refer to my favorite faction) I actually rather like the primal aesthetic. I also hate the whole gobbledigook.

That said... Yes, they could do with being more magical and fancy looking for most of the mainline models and the models are old as heck.
I completely agree with adding more "glamrock" to the lizardmen range despite all that. They could do with upping the fantasy factor a few notches in addition to updating the sculpts.
A simple fix would be adding more fancy armour with glowing jewels and stuff to a bunch of minies.
Make arcs of magic lightning dance on the staves of skink priests, give the saurus glowing energy weapons etc.
Just do keep them dinosaur/reptile first, star-paladin second.

A faction that probably has it worse though is Flesh Eater Courts, who have a 100% disconnect between new lore and old minies. It would be cool if at least some aspect of their delusions bled-through into their minies.

Tfw they just teased new Seraphon models and this aged worst then non-avian dinosaurs.

Anyway I still love old lizardmen models and I would hate lizardmen suddenly getting sci-fantasy power armor.

Fax I sold all my lizardmen stuff in 2015 still waiting for an update got all the side game models and kroak though
