Once i saw kuma training with ace, you instantly can tell kuma, is the nicest thing to ever exist. And for that small moment wotnessing luffy's crew get taken in front of you with nothing you can do. To Dragon's credit, while at first glance he could be considered a deadbeat dad, Dragon DOES give a shit about Luffy, as seen when he stopped Smoker back in Loguetown. He does care, he just can't be with him right now because of his occupation as one of the most wanted men in the world.
