CUPRA Born 2023 review | Road Test

The CUPRA Born may be built on the same platform as the Volkswagen ID.3, but this fully electric hatchback offers something a little sportier. And with its aggressive looks, front splitter and big spoiler, it’s easy to see why some are calling it the first electric hot hatch.

But does it have that perfect blend of performance and practicality that makes sporty hatchbacks so appealing? Motorsport expert Duncan Vincent takes it out on the road to put the CUPRA Born through its paces and see if the 201bhp of this CUPRA Born V2 delivers.

This model provides plenty of extra features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, a heads-up display and the e-boost function which provides an extra 20kW of power when required. And with 385-litres of boot space and five doors, it should tick all the boxes to make it a practical everyday car.

I used to really like the matte finish, but now I much prefer the gloss for the petrol blue.

Either way, easily the best looking hatch today IMHO.

Please have a look at how Rory Reid or Harry Metcalfe present road tests and you’ll get more followers. For instance you tell us how good the head up display is but don’t show us. Could do better, nice car though.

A Born will take a whole lot less than an hour to charge to 80% on a 150kW or better charger
