Ziauddin takes us on a journey through modern India’s economic history revolving around 3 important decisions; 3 seemingly unrelated decisions that had a humongous impact on India’s journey into the 21stcentury.

Education, Finance and Industry are the most important stakeholders in any country’s development. India seems to have legislated upon all 3 without an economic plan. The setting up of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Bank Nationalization and the Takeover of Tata Air were events that didn’t seem as cataclysmic or inter-related on a macro-economic level. However, their effects were so widespread that after decades of them having taken place, each one of them is being undone in essence. It is important for developing countries to realize that economic decisions can’t have overwhelmingly political and ideological dimensions. India’s tryst with socialism has come around in a full circle in the 21stcentury. And, this economic journey has a story to tell.
