i think its important to know that Phil is not actually an accredited Psychologist he practiced Psychology from 1988 til 1990 after that he kept his licence however that's the only time he actually practiced it and even then the TSBEP considered removing his licence because his patients complained that he was inappropriate

"people who are into anthropomorphic images" this took me by surprise, I expected the standard "furries are people who like to dress up in animal costumes", pretty nice to see a generally positive representation of furries in mainstream media for once especially on a "drama" show like this one

Also I heard there's an episode of CSI about furries that's supposedly really bad, have you considered doing a furry review/analysis of that?

Actually, I would consider being a "furry" is a hobby for most furries. Being a furry doesn't run my entire life and it's not necessarily how I live. Yes, it is a pretty important part of my life and who I am but it's not exactly my lifestyle. For some furries out there, it may be (and as long as they maintain a healthy life for themselves and no harm done, I don't belive they shouldn't receive judgement in any way). Also, I don't consider mascots to be exactly "furries". I'm not saying they can't be, but being an an animal costume to represent a team isn't necessarily what being a furry is all about.

few days ago i was walking around the San Francisco piers (school trip) and i saw a bunny and a raccoon/fox.
teacher: interesting mascots, is a party going on?
me *facepalm* no, just furries.
teacher: what's that?
me: people that dress up as anthropomorphic animals.
teacher: whatever floats their boat and makes them happy then i guess im ok with it.
me: *almost hugs teacher*

My first thought when I saw her suit was "omg who was her maker?!"

"There is no professional furry."
The mother obviously doesn't know about suit and art commissions. But art as a job is difficult. You have to really get famous within the community.

You left out the bit where doctor phil calls her fursuit head a helmet and everybody laughs at her, that was the bit that annoyed me as it wasn't really necessary. Besides that i agree with you that doctor phill was justified with everything else. :D good vid

This Doctor Phil episode should go viral so that those that're less educated with furries can dispose of that toxic CSI episode (you know the one.) Truth be told, being a furry is a hobby. It's why there are so many diverse occupations within the fandom, people needed sufficient money to live from somewhere. (and art commissions?(lol))

On the whole "you never know who's a creep" topic. The same is true for anybody not covering their face in any way. It's not like those without masks are always(or even usually) recognisable as some creep. I don't really see any real grounding behind that particular argument given the fact that no matter where you go or what you're doing, you can't tell all the creeps apart from the safe people. Another point brought up by somebody in this comment section(can't remember who. sorry.) is that amongst fursuiters, it's much easier to recognise them and tell them apart so anybody who is a target of suspicion can be recognised incredibly fast.(sorry if this seems rambly in any way. i sometimes struggle to word things in such a way that makes sense to others)

It was a good episode. I also liked how Dr. Phil was respectful to the whole Furry idea but still being honest to that girl about she needed to get a job and get her life started. Overall it was just really good, I mean you mostly said everything that needed to be said and I would just be repeating what you said. lol

My mother was a lot like this, caused a lot of drama in the household. Some parents are like that when their child takes an interest in something like a fandom. Mainly cause they dont understand it then they search it up online and finding some lewd shit lol.

I'm lucky my parents weren't like this.
I showed my step mom that I got a fursuit and she loved it.
and my dad said he wanted to get a werewolf fursuit so we could go to cons together lol

my sister doesn't really care. and I dont even know if my brother knows I own a fursuit XD

The mother has a very odd fixation on "being visible" that appears to overlap with an equally-strange and potentially-pathological fixation on physical beauty. While I realize that following those threads would've turned the episode into a therapy session focused on the mom, I'm a bit disappointed that Dr. Phil didn't touch either issue. Me personally, I would've been quite keen to nail the mother on her own superficiality.

It would've been very easy to point out that everybody sees each other in the headless lounge, or the equivalent. I only know of two fursuiters offhand whose identities are completely secret, because they've made a point to never change in front of other people.

Other than that, I'm extremely pleased that they opted not to blame Culpeo's growing pains and struggles on the furry fandom. Lots of 20-year-olds struggle with finding their way and getting on their future path.

(tfw you're 19 and barely surviving)

I think you could've made note that it's not uncommon for furries to have traits that set them apart. It's hard to bring up but the community is generally considered an open, accepting community, thereby welcoming LGBT furries as well as furries with mental and physical health problems that like having a lifestyle or hobby to cope. It's the main reason many furries (especially youth or young adults like myself) have trouble maintaining a job. I believe there is more to her story. I don't know anything about her or how she is doing now, but I have a feeling that it's more than hesitancy that was keeping her from getting a job and "growing up". Maybe she was having anxiety or depression, and/or maybe her school was not providing enough help/counselling for her and that's why she dropped out (I had to drop out because of my own learning disabilities and personal situations) I know that when I tried to get counselling in HS the queue was always full and they never had enough time which each student.

I'm not excusing the girl in the video, but I think there was more than just her lifestyle that was keeping her back, as is the case with most people in that situation. I feel like "Dr." Phil should have understood that but of course he didn't.

She can be a fursuit maker if she doesn't have a job you can make resin bases and things like that full time and potentially make it work

The end problem wasn't even about furries. It was about her getting a job other than furry art.

"There is no professional furry" the mom says.

I wonder if she's aware of how much money the top suit makers and commission artists make.
