Origins:
1-Posterior Iliac Crest
2-Posterolateral Sacrum
3-Coccyx
4-Sacrotuberous Ligament and the Fascia Covering the Gluteus Medius
Insertions:
1-Iliotibial (Band)
2-Gluteal Tuberosity of the Femur
Functions:
1-Extension of the Thigh @ the Hip Joint
2-Lateral Rotation of the Thigh @ the Hip Joint
3-Abduction of the Thigh @ the Hip Joint (Upper 1/3)
4-Adduction of the Thigh @ the Hip Joint (Lower 2/3)
5-Extends the Leg @ the Knee Joint
6-Helps Lock Knee in Extension*
Nerve:
Inferior Gluteal Nerve (L5, S1, S2)
Activation: (Prone)Resist Extension & Lateral Rotation of the Hip (Knee is flexed)
Lengthening: (Supine) Flexion & Medial Rotation of the Hip (Knee to Nose)
