Nigeria’s parliament is set to approve the most significant tax reforms in the country’s history.
Four bills before the house aim to streamline tax laws by doubling value-added tax, raising taxes on the wealthy, and imposing levies to fund education and infrastructure.
But the most contentious aspect of the reforms is a plan to allocate a larger share of VAT proceeds to wealthier states.

Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris reports from Lagos, Nigeria.

The people will pay the tax if they can see it's impact but you can't tax people and show nothing tangible in return. The average people deserve a better life not just the elite individuals in power.
The policy of the previous adminstrations has been nothing but disaster but this current administration's policy is catastrophic.
So far all thier policies have not helped the average citizen, no good standard of living, inflation, insecurity, bad infrastructure, Healthcare and educational decline etc
Just like the previous adminstrations, the country's fund has been misused and taken by certain group of individuals in power.
But current regime not only wants to continue to milk the cow but also take even that which the average citizen have and in the end nothing to show for apart from false promises.
I hope one day we will see positive changes that we all want to see.Ameen

Forget about Nigeria. No reform benefits Nigerians, we are extremely poor people who can hardly feed. And all reforms are for the news, not Nigerians. All of our money goes to Political elites easily.. while we languish in extreme poverty. It's hard to see any hope because the system is corrupt to the core..

Nigerians are being crushed by the Tax Regimes of this administration. In a country where accountability is non-existent .

One thing people need to understand about Nigeria is that, it's a made-up country that should have never been. We are not one people, and we are very different across regions, with different languages, cultures, traditions, history etc.

The only thing that we have in common is that we are from the same country, which is called 'Nigeria', nothing more. Nigeria should have never been in the first place, even the british didn't think the Nigeria will last this long. The only reason it's still standing is because, the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria has crude oil, and that is what feeds the nation. All states in Nigeria, get allocations in Billions of Naira every month, whether or not they are viable. Many states in Nigeria are not economically viable, but still get allocated billions every month.

In summary, Nigeria is a criminal enterprise were the leaders rub the country blind, and president Tinubu is here to put an end to that.

How's Lagos been, favor when the northern part of Nigeria like kano and kaduna states bring nothing or little to the federal government but want to collect bigger shares from federal allocation, the north should think of how to boost its economy and some south west states like osun and ondo states should tighten its bet period.

People need to pay taxes if you want the government to be more efficient. The useless state governors should step up or step aside.

☪ Sayyidna Abu al-Dahdah presented himself before the Holy Prophet and asked him: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed to you, does Allah Almighty need loan 💲from us, although He is Ghani غنی ، the one who needs no loan?'

The Holy Prophet 🤑said: 'Yes, Allah Almighty does wish to grant you entry in Paradise through it.' Hearing this, Sayyidna Abu al-Dahdah said. 'Let the Messenger of Allah stretch his hand forward.' He stretched his hand forward. Now Abu al-Dahdah started saying: 'I own two date farms. I own nothing except these. I give the loan of these two farms of mine to Allah Almighty.' << Tafsir Surah Al-Baqarah - 245 >>🌙
