Pro Bass Fisherman JT Thompkins Disqualified in Bass Tournament

Elite Series angler JT Thompkins has been disqualified from the Humminbird Bassmaster Elite Series at St. Lawrence River for failure to pass a truth verification examination. JT Thompkins is a professional bass tournament angler from Myrtle Beach South Carolina. JT Thompkins won Angler of the Year in 2023. As a result of JT Thompkins disqualification, Thompkins will receive zero points toward Progressive Bassmaster Angler of the Year and Dakota Lithium Elite Series Rookie of the Year standings. The truth verification exam was administered during the event Friday, and Thompkins failed to pass exam sections that pertain to Rule C3 ii a and Rule C3 (xiv). Rule C3 ii a states anglers “cannot gather waypoints or specific fishing locations i.e. creek, river, area of the lake, etc. from any source that is not publicly available.”

I don’t know why these folks feel like they aren’t the one that will get caught. Everyone near and far young and old knows that one of the rules to get paid, is lie detector, Paper work, insurance, licenses. It’s all a given. I’d rather be in a lower points standing position than lose my integrity and reputation. If you want notoriety donate money or time to take a kid or veteran fishing .

I'd say all forms of GPS needs banned from fishing tournaments before FFS.
I'd like to see it gone too, but to be fair it doesn't do you any good unless you have a good place to point it (someone's hot spot you bought)

Ideally, it would be: analog fishing only or you're not worthy of a trophy. That would require some sense of sportsmanship from the participants tho; say what you want about tech, they're not going to change their mindsets any time soon. It's almost like it's a morality problem instead of a tool problem.

As a tournament bass fisherman, the most respect I’ve ever had for a tournament director (or tournament trail in general) is when I first heard Scott Berry of Ozark Mountain Team Trail say “it is every anglers responsibility to know the rules. I don’t know is not an excuse and will lead to your disqualification.” It’s really not that hard to read and abide by the rules

Advice given to a professional bass fisherman by someone who knows the lake beforehand is illegal. However, a device such as live scope sonar that will actually identify fish in real time is legal?

I think DI and SI should have been the final frontier for electronics 🤷‍♀️ I was co Angling and the dude just played a video game for 6 hours. Does it still take skills with front facing. I knew that kid was cheating. He was aoy in the Opens last year and I said all season last year he was cheating. I've been a huge fan of BASS for 30 years. Watching fish swim on a computer screen live and watch your bait while continuing casting baits in front of the fish face while chasing the fish around is absolutely a disgrace and imo not even fishing. People always comment oh you listen to Randy to much but it doesn't take genius to figure out that it wrong. JT should not be allowed to compete or attend the classic as punishment. To help put a end to this but it won't happen.

$30k worth of equipment just doesn't make it easy enough for them lol... Bass tournaments need to go back to basic fish finder (1 per boat) and just be done with it. If you're in the "pro" league why are you using so many electronics/equipment to catch fish?

The whole family is liers my mom was not in her wright mind . Try to say my mom gave them 27 achers of land for 5 dallors and came and told us when 5 mins after my mom died and told us that With the tragic, we hadn't just happened, and the signatures don't even match up. Cheating an efficient tournament. No surprise to me. And these are supposed to be family, we're first cousins.

He could have read a comment on FB that would be a rule violation. Its a stress test and when asked he could have had elevated stress by thinking "did i see something on FB or Instagram that i wasnt supposed to see". It is possable its something simple as this that got his failed test. Social media has been roasting the guy and he may have done nothing wrong as he indicated.
Maybe he knowingly did something wrong and is lying about it IDK. Could be more to it than we know.

I dont tournament fish but asking around where the good spots are (everyone lies anyway) is against the rules but using live scope isn't? That dosnt make sens 😅.
