Haute Couture has been down centerline in the Grand Prix dressage ring with a few different riders including Carl Hester, however today we are going to take a look at how Haute Couture looks with Dinja Van Liere and Katherine Bateson.

left was more relaxed imo. the horse is under itself more and the rider is much more consistent.
right the horse is more tense. his mouth opens, especially in the rein back. this horse moves bigger so it probably ended up scoring higher but the harmony with the left pair is more evident.
both are very talented and hardworking riders. it takes a lot of work to ride the upper levels and i have a huge respect for both

The rider on the right has an inconsistent feel on the reins. She's constantly moving her hands around. At the halt, she basically throws the contact away. She also has poor body position. Leaning back, she shoved her feet forward. We've seen this type of riding before. On this channel, in fact.

This results in her horse with a hollowed out back and a trailing hind end.

The rider on the left has a much better body position, soft and giving yet consistent feel of the mouth. Her aids are quieter, resulting in a horse with a round back and hindquarters underneath himself. The body condition of this horse proves the correct work has been done in order to accomplish the movements required at this level with strength and ease.

EXCELLENT video comparison. Well done!! ❤😊

Right imo, horse is overall relaxed. A horse's comfort should be the main priority, regardless of mistakes.

Lol, do people not realise this is the same horse?
But okay, overall I think I’d prefer Dinja with her. Over all more fluent, less tense, she gets really irregular at times (from tension I suspect) with Bateson. The rein-back tells all, Bateson’s is pulled, Van Liere’s is ridden.
The different angles of the videos makes it a bit deceptive. Bateson rides her with a similar frame. Both are not really the way I would prefer. Haute Couture is gorgeous and really talented. I hope she takes her time with her and has a decent trainer. I feel like she’s trying to give her some space in front, but miserably failing. Her upward tendency and hind leg seem completely gone. This wasn’t their first time in the ring right?

Difficult one. Bateson's horse was on a lighter contact, more swing and better self carriage. She however sits behind the movement, not interfering though and light hands.. Van Liere i question her home training methods after that meltdown with Hermes a while back. I may be wrong of course.

I would say that it truly depends on which movement. Bateson started stronger, but Van Lier ended stronger.

I am inexperienced as to what to look for here, but I do think the horses are magnificent

I think the horse and rider on the left did better, but I am not sure if the horse's head was reined in tighter.

Links Dinja! Gedragenheid, rust, betere uitoefening van de oefeningen (zoals Piaffe bijvoorbeeld)

I don't like Dinja van Liere 🤷‍♂️

Sometimes viewing it from incompatable angles. Sometimes the rider on the right rushes her horse into a line. Haute Couture seems to fall on the left to right front leg in the passage whereas Hermes is very balanced. Hermes performs the piaff much more in rythm. And Haute couture had his mouth opened more frequently or so it seemed. But he is a genius in the half pass.

right horse, so much more expression and fluidity of movement. Both good riders.
