Former Daewoo Group Chairman Kim Woo-choong died late Monday at age 82, an organization affiliated with the now-defunct conglomerate said.
Kim, whose career as the rags-to-riches founder of the company, died of a chronic disease at a hospital in Suwon, just south of Seoul, at 11:50 p.m. last night, according to Daewoosky Institute, which represents former employees of Daewoo.

Kim founded Daewoo in 1967 as a small textiles company and successfully expanded overseas business starting from Singapore to Indonesia, and then to North America. He was only 30 years old, then. Watch this video for more information.

My father worked for its travel service business in my country for more than 15 years and this company is losing its worth day by day as other local competitors are emerging. Daewoo still has some shares from south Korean investors but not enough for it to survive.

Getting a Presidential pardon must be very nice. I wonder how much he paid to get that.

My condolences to the family! It's really a shame that something he created from scratch and made into a giant, he continued to uncontrollably inflate further, even illegally and without watching for the macro situation. Unfortunately, it ended as it did. To me Daewoo was mainly known for Matiz. So, now all passenger cars out there can only be found as used. If I got well, the only vehicles that kept the recognizable looks of the logo are different types of trucks produced by an Indian company Tata Motors in SK under Tata Daewoo brand name, right? 대우 is one of those names totally mispronounced. The way Daewoo is romanized reveals nothing on how to do it.
