Someone pointed out there’s been no big dystopian movies or literature that have been successful lately.
This has happened several times in modern history. During both the world wars and during the 1970s recession. Basically we generally don’t like dystopian fiction when we’re living in one.

It ties in well with the current state of our society, especially with the ever-increasing reliance and misuse of technology. The resemblances are indeed hard to ignore. However, I agree that hope keeps us from spiraling into a full-on dystopia. We still find joy in the simple things, proving that a dystopian society is not our reality yet.

Yes, and it's not even a cool dystopia. On a dark level everyone has a dystopia they like (Blade Runner here) and we can't even get flying cars and off world colonies. We have to settle for Twitter.

Man, spent 100 000 years running around in the woods throwing pointy sticks, 10 000 farming and building and developing land, a few hundred years inventing things like engines and electricity and medicine, and now in the last 80 or so since computers essentually, driving towards a cliff at ever accelerated speed.

We are living a dystopian future right now. If you are old enough to remember the golden age of America, then you know how bad things have gotten. Too many are too young to remember how great America used to be for ALL Americans, not just the elites or upper class. If I had a time machine, I would definitely skip this part of the timeline. It's flabbergasting that the UK has produced and inspired so many dystopian stories and nowadays it's one of the modern societies that most resembles one.
Sometimes I question the usefulness of "wake up calls" and think they're just back patting for those who are already aware enough and "awake".
Like a signpost warning against the dangers of blindness and everyone that read it nodding in approval of how correct it was and how much the agreed with it.
