Guitar Riffs vs Guitar Licks, a Definitive guide

Hi Friends! I did a very short video some time ago demonstrating briefly the difference between a guitar riff and a guitar lick, but I didn't really go very deep and some people commented that it didn't really clear things up, so I've decided to do this video where I dive a little deeper on the difference between a guitar riff and guitar lick, including examples, with tabs, of each.

*I really like the sound of combining single notes and power chords, If you look at definitely adds depth to a simple power chord riff and can also help with my more post-punk Influencened sound guitar sound*

Hey! The Dead Milkmen are my cousin’s band! My cousin, Dean, is the drummer! They still play a few gigs a year.

Licks - these are "signature" guitar patterns used by guitarists.

A good example of licks: Phrygian Scales, Harmonic Minor Scales, Diminished and Major / Minor chord arpeggios by Yngwie Malmsteen.

Riffs - these are guitar melodies used to keep the music in RHYTHM.

A good example: Metallica's riff on Enter Sandman (that everybody LOVES to play a LOT!)
