Red cedar is also my favorite smell. I save it for days when there is a low pressure system and I am working around the property. It is such a great smell. And I will also will make a Swedish fire log from a large diameter cedar for an outdoor fire. I am enjoying your videos. Thanks.

I also repaired and rebuilt my fences at farm this year with white cedar. Cedar posts and rails. I even reused some 100 year old cedar rails from fences in the bush. If anyone is using cedar posts... Tip... Strip bark back at least from the section that will be going into the ground then burn that same section before it goes in ground. It will extend the life of the post. The posts I replaced were about 70 years old and some were still basically sound and only loose in the holes. They also make canoes out of cedar because it is light and so rot resistant.

I just filled half a pickup bed with cedar that had been laying on the ground for a couple of years. The bark was rotting but the inside was dry and intact. I've grilled with it but only after it's been reduced to coals, after all the oils have been burn out.

They use cedar chips in dog beds because it is a natural bug repellent. It also makes good kindling. If you like the smell of the wood but do not necessarily want to be burning it as logs for woodstove you can at least use it for kindling. Since most of the wood smell will come from when you first fire up the woodstove and not when you have it going with door closed use it as kindling. Burns fast and hot and will give you the initial cedar smell.

Any cedar wood is not safe for fire places because it produces a lot of creasote and that's a very bad thing. The general rule is never burn soft woods inside like in a wood stove or a fireplace only hard woods like oak hickory and pine oak.
