I love hearing Billie sing very dark songs. She's just been through so much that I feel like it fits her so well, and she's really good at getting you drawn into it. Her voice is just so... Irresistible. I would do anything, or give anything to have been able to see her sing live.

...no-one sounded like her ...not before, during or after her too short life...her phrasing, just behind the down beat, is sooo distinctive....love her....

lyrics:
Summertime and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Oh, your daddy's rich and your ma is good lookin'
So hush little baby, don't you cry

One of these mornings, you're goin' to rise up singin'
Then you spread your wings and you'll take the sky
But 'til that mornin', there's nothin' can harm you
With daddy and mammy standin' by

One of these mornings, you're goin' to rise up singin'
Then you spread your wings and you'll take to the sky
But 'til that mornin', there's nothin' can harm you
With daddy and mammy's hand in mine

The only artist ever who has not recorded a bad song. Every track is amazing. That is that.

The swingin clarinet and the trumpet puts the jazz in this rendition. Billie's voice seems to meld these two together like velvet. wow...

When one learns about Billie' s childhood/upbringing her songs really resonate. And it's scary how "Strange Fruit" is as relevant today (2020) as it was on first release, over 65 years ago.

It's like a melancholy, loving prayer. The blues tone laments the evil in the world while the lyrics, despite or because of the darkness, is full of faith in everything good and beautiful.
