The Canon T3i has issues...

The Canon EOS Rebel T3i has many flaws. Is it worth buying in 2021? It is now 10 years old and less than $200 used on eBay.

Some of the worst flaws I have experienced with this camera include:
1. No continuous autofocus
2. A bad pre-amp for audio
3. No 720p 60fps capability
4. No clean HDMI out

However, being that this camera still has the basic things you need to start recording videos in really good quality, I still recommend it. The features on this camera are lacking, but it is still a great body to get you going while you see if you even want to make more videos. Why break the bank on a $600 camera body you may only use ONCE if you don't even like recording videos?

Shot my feature on the T3i and its on Amazon and Tubi TV, My trick with any of these Canon cams is I shoot in camera B&W. Its the secret about Canon Cams no one realizes, they have an unbeatable monochrome profile. Shoot @ 100 iso, sharpness down, contrast full tilt add the yellow filter and for no money u can give cams 10 times the price a run for their money.

A used one is cheap but when it first came out that was a $900 camera that actually paid for and made my money back 10xs so it's not useless. I shot over 15 music videos with it and shot TV shows with it. Don't discourage others who are just getting it as well if that's what they can afford. As long you know how to use it you will get your money's worth.

Everyone keeps depending on AUTO FOCUS.

Beginners, listen up, AUTO FOCUS will NOT land you a job in the industry because they DO NOT use this feature.

It's best if you learn manual and you buy a camera that is mainly manual and not dependent on AUTO FOCUS. It is a nice feature to have but do not base your entire work on this feature.

The camera is still EXCELLENT for beginners. I've shot tons of videos with that camera before.

I have a lot of frustrations with this camera but have a hard time finding something extremely better that isn't 10x the price. It costs $250 and it's half the camera a $2000 one is.

I got two of these on ebay. With lenses and competition, about $265. I actually had one from 2012, took it to Paris with me, let a friend there borrow it and he got mugged. I always like the video quality. Yes the audio isn't great but you can always get lavaliers. It's a pretty good camera.

To begin with, it's a 10 year old camera and older technology so that alone says it all, back in the days yes it was very advanced but now days it's good for beginners or someone on a budget that still wants a decent camera, for me I prefer to shoot with my 6D mark2 but if I had my way I would probably try those new mirrorless cameras. Newer cameras do have way more advanced features!

Did you tried that 3-10x zoom? It is really high quality video at around 3x. Just invest your money in more important stuff like lighting and mic with buil in preamp and you are fine with whatever camera you get. I used may cameras over the years from Red and Blackmagic to Sony a6300 and cheaper Canons and Nikons like d3200 and t2i, t4i. They all have their corks even 50k$ ones. It is just a tool. I compared some of my footage shoot on Red 6k from 2015 with my smartphone footage and they hardly look any different anymore.

A commenter on another video featuring this camera mentioned that Canon still supports it and released a firmware update that enables it to be used as a Webcam. Which means the information on the HDMI out feed is eliminated. I just purchased one on EBAY and plan to find out once it arrives. Question. Can the focus be locked? I want to use it as a tripod mounted top down camera for filming art videos. I have a M50, but I'm tired of having to take it off the tripod to access the SD card. Which is in the battery compartment on the bottom. I like the side mounted SD card location on the t3i.
