Gas chromatography is used in analytical chemistry for separating and analyzing compounds that can be vaporized without decomposition

For anyone who is confused about the internal standard, it is just used as a positive control, you mix it in with your sample (provided it doesn't react with your sample ofc), run the sample and if the peak for the internal standard shows up you know that the GC worked as intended, if the peak doesn't show up you know that there is an error somewhere and you have to do it again.

Also the internal standard is of known concentration so it is also used for calibration.
