Muon Detecting

What are muons, where do they come from and how do we detect them?
This is a video which answers these questions and more as we follow a team of Natural Sciences students at the University of Exeter, building a muon detector from scratch. This project will be continued by groups in the future until the detector can be used to perform muon tomography! I'm detecting Muons here down the road from Exeter in Okehampton, using a pair of Geiger Muller tubes and some coincidence detection electronics. ...but just for fun in a back bedroom :-)

How good spatial resolution were you able to achieve using the difference method? And could you use Time of Flight instead of amplitude ratio with the FPGA?

Did those children just wrap the scintillator panel without remembering or knowing to remove the protective film? They probably reduced the sensitivity by 50-75%. Face palm.

If you want to effectively communicate these concepts please dramatically improve the sound recording. Much information is lost with the echoing, on sight recordings.
