Some war themes makes you want to go to war, this one makes you ask why

this doesn't sound like a war theme. it sounds almost as if Darius is mournful for the bloodshed and death that he knows will occur. its beautiful in a very mellow kind of way

In an analytical viewpoint, this sombre and sorrowful music shows that Darius, unlike most leaders in the game, understands the sufferings wroght by war, and does not want his people or anyone else for that matter to go through such pain. This means he is a leader of morals compared to most of the leaders in the game, like Genghis Khan for instance, whose music is more lively and percussive in an aggressive timbre

Hearing this music in the game means you are a douche. Darius is like the nicest, most open leader in that game as long as you do not act in warmongering or aggressive manners. Never had any problems with him in any of my games, he's most often friend with me for a fact.

I imagine this song playing in a scenario where Macedonia declares war on Persia; the piece's slow paced melancholy makes me think of all the beautiful art and literature that was lost during the sack of Persepolis.

I love how when you declare war on him, even if your armies were already positioned beforehand, he just jumps back in utter surprise! Gets me every time!

This guy is amazing. It's hard to come off the high from a 38-turn golden age.

I always feel sorry for Darius in my games. He always seems so scared when he's backstabbed, and he seems to be the nicest guy in the game. He's effectively the opposite of Gandhi the Destroyer of Worlds :P

I like this guy. He's very friendly. Even if he's in Guard or Afraid mode, you can trade fairly with him without having to give up all your resources.

Of my many games, he declared war on me just once... but that was when I didn't focus on my army in early game.

A man, the civilization that brought peace to the world, vanished by the greek culture, this theme reminds me of what might happend if Greece had lost the Persian Wars, Peace trough out the World

I honestly thought I was listening to the peace theme until I looked at the title. It's a great song though.

This one sound more mournful than warlike, but it's beautiful nonetheless.

In one of my games, Darius made 20 or more cities dotted all over the map and intruding into everyone else's territory. Eventually I declared war, took the capital, and destroyed the majority of his armies. Then, every other civ on the map declared war and started taking the rest of his cities until he was left with two.

The mournfullness of this song reminds of The Persians by Aeschylus. A truly revolutionary peace at the time for Greek Theater, that told and explained the misery of the Persians defeated by the Greeks during the 2nd Punic War. This piece, instead of promoting the Greek victory, remininded the Greek citizens that every was has a looser and that one must stay humble as the winner. Xerxes had offended the Gods, which was what lead to his defeat, the genious strategy the Greek had shown was but the trigger of their wrath.
