Nailed it! Sonic Generations is perfectly fine... good even! But, it's not the best 3D Sonic and it's defo isn't the best 2D sonic! still, it's fine... good even!

I genuinely think Sonic 1 to 3 are perfect, and Adventure 1 + 2 are the best 3D games.

Unfortunately for those caught in the middle, it doesn't satisfy everyone. I love Sonic Adventure 1 (and enjoy 2 as well), but I don't like the more linear "boost" style of gameplay used in Colors and generations. I prefer having fun and relatively calm hub areas and having action stages that switch things up and aren't 90% running straightforward.

Ever since I was a child who played Sonic on the PS2, I had seen the divide increase between both sides and dimensions. But, I will say, Generations is something fans can look back on and say, "this is how it's done.". To this day, Generations is still used for mods almost all the time. To think Sonic has lasted 30 years and is guaranteed to continue long after my time has passed, time will tell what is next for the blue blur.

I'm an OG fan who did follow Sonic into the 3D era, and I've had my issues with the 3D ones here and there. Generations did a pretty darn good job of meeting both sides. The way Mania feels to me like a love letter to the fans, Generations feels like a love letter to the series itself.

I'd argue that generations took more of its level design ideas from unleashed, colors level design was kinda limited by the fact that it was on wii and as such, set out to be a far less ambitious title

As a kid my parents would buy old Sega plug and plays so I loved playing old sonic games and as I grew up I played the newer 3D ones and loved it just as much. Generations is one of my all time favourite sonic game ever.

That's a really great look at Sonic Generations. I personally never got into it (weird physics, I prefer the classic games + Adventure) but do agree it's a genius game for a new generation, like its name suggests.

Im happy you guys decided to do a best game series, it feels refreshing to see the Cartoon Shane in the thumbnail happy for once that he doesnt have to play a bad game 🙃
