Rubbernecking to watch a Police Training exercise

In this video the lorry driver nearly gets caught out because he's more interested in what the police were doing. WARNING - THERE ARE FLASHING LIGHTS IN THIS VIDEO.
This was Jon's final video before he let me know he wouldn't be contributing any more. I would like to say a massive thanks to him for his support over the years, and I'm sure you all agree his clips are inspirational. Keep safe out there Jon!

As an officer myself dealing with a three-vehicle collision on a dual carriageway recently, I was commenting to control on the amount of rubbernecking and hadn't even finished calling up before an identical three-vehicle collision that happened in the opposite carriageway writing off three cars and injuring two people. All simply because of people not looking in the direction of travel. Infuriating (but not as bad as people trying to photograph it whilst driving.... *sigh*). Thanks for highlighting this.

Thanks Jon for being an example of a good road user and for providing educational clips for us all - I and many others have found them very useful and informative!

Thank you!

Thanks to Jon for sharing this. Good lessons here. Imagine if the Lorry driver was rubbernecking at the same time as the car was slowing to look ?

Jon is one of the main reasons I've continued to watch this channel. Ashley and Jon work so well together and make for fantastic viewing. Hope you stay safe Jon, and of course to Ashley too - I will miss the 'Just Jon' episodes!

Feel like I haven't seen a Jon clip in a while, glad to see he's still out there doing his thing making us all look like terrible drivers 🤣😉

Whenever a passenger says "Oh, look at *whatever*" my response tends to be "Not a chance; I need to concentrate on the driving".
The number of people that look at *anything but the road* for 5+ seconds is
Backing off is instinctive - more room to react if/when it all goes wrong - and I've seen quite a few secondary incidents caused as a result of rubbernecking!
A fond farewell to Jon.

I really destest rubber neckers and totally avoid this practice myself. They can truly disrupt the traffic flow and cause long delays, as well as cause danger of course. This video shows some of the potential dangers but it's also quite incredible at the delays it can also create when the incident is on the opposite carriageway. I've even had "faster" drivers who moments earlier came speeding past me, now slowing right down to rubberneck at some incident on the opposite carriageway. I guess they weren't in such a hurry after all.

Oh no! Gutted that @jon c will not be contributing any more. 😢

Mate, your contributions have been inspiring. You are an epic driver.

I hope you change your mind but, either way, I wish you the very best. Your driving videos and Ashley's commentary on them have qualified you to be the Dynamic Duo. God only knows how many lives you have saved between you.

Get a dashcam, rubberneck at home.

Also, the rare 60mph sign

I really don’t get rubberneckers

Also sad to see that this is Jon’s last clip. I’ve enjoyed watching his contributions

Thanks Jon! Also, I recognise the location! That was Stonebridge Island, Marston Green, on the way to Coventry!

Your point about the time is excellent - the dash cam shows him coming to a stop at 06:22:03 & he moved off again at 06:25:16...just 3 minutes & 13 seconds later....hardly and inconvenience was it?

I've seen several near-misses and one collision due to rubbernecking over the years. I always try to keep in mind that you could well be looking at the worst - or possibly last - day of someone's life. Show some class and some respect to those involved. The last thing you want when things go to crap is a gawping audience.

Cheers Jon - curious as to why you're stopping, do you have a new job? Or is it a hassle sending them in 😜Good luck regardless

I once came across an incident on the opposite carriageway and yes, you guessed it *my* carriageway slowed right down to rubberneck. As soon as I past the visuals the cars in front accelerated away, allowing me to do the same. Looking in the rear view mirror I could see an elderly couple in the car behind, practically at a stop and both taking a gander at the scene opposite. It was 2-3 seconds before the driver noticed the road in front had almost completely cleared and by them I was doing about 40-50mph.

With so much attention being devoted to the unexpected 'entertainment' it's no wonder further accidents happen.
