By ''Dark Ages'' I meant the popular belief that the Middles Ages, from the 5th to the late 15th centuries, was a period of cultural and intellectual stagnation in Europe.

A little memory of my visit to Sainte-Chapelle in Paris in 2023 😊One of my trip highlights. It felt surreal to be in the presence of such beauty. The Sainte-Chapelle was a private chapel in the royal residence of French Kings during the Middle Ages. It housed important Christian relics such as the Crown of Thorns. It is the best example of rayonnant gothic architecture.

Sorry for the low quality. Idk why youtube can't properly render the video :(

Its always shocks me when people think the people of the past weren't as talented as people today

Even the small church in my mothers home town is amazing. It was built in the 1400's. War could not destroy it.
Beautiful.

Even for a Parisian la sainte chapelle is so beautiful. I went to a concert there and it was as if the angels were singing for us.

The medieval period actually saw a great deal of technological and artistic advancement in Europe. But because literacy was so low and knowledge was mostly transmitted orally, we don’t have written records of these achievements, like we do for achievements in China or the Arabic world. Only recently have we begun looking at the material evidence instead of just assuming that nothing happened between the years of 500 and 1640, like a bunch of smooth brains.

European architecture is on another level, they can build a Cathedral taller than a skyscraper and still have the manpower to make it more beautiful than any building you’ve ever seen

There's a reason why the Medieval times are my favourite as an Architecture student. My two most favourite buildings in the world are from then!

Coming up that dark, twisty staircase to entering all this colour and light. Just beautiful.

It's very contradictory. Some people say "they don't build things like they used to" pointing out the car centric architecture we build today. But then you have the same people saying aliens built the pyramids and "nothing happens in the dark ages" folks 😅😅😅

I remember visiting that chapel; i was so blown away by the beauty i couldnt but let out an audible "woah!" And everyone in the room silently admiring the art turned to stare at me.

People always talk about Notre Dame but I find Saint-Chappell just as beautiful…

It is a miracle that such beauty has survived to enchant us still today. Thank God it is in France. Had it been in the UK, it would have been destroyed by Henry Viii.
